In order to attract more outstanding students from home and abroad to pursue full-time doctoral degrees at Harbin Institute of Technology (HIT), we have launched our Quick Response Initiative to recruit outstanding doctoral candidates. Details are as follows:
I. Application Requirements for the Quick Response Initiative
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
1.Have obtained or will soon obtain a master's degree. Both bachelor's and master's degrees of the candidates must be issued by top-tier universities or leading research institutions domestically or internationally. Candidates' overall academic performance should rank among the top in the previous year's recruitment in the same discipline.
2. Be bachelor's degree from top overseas universities. Their universities must generally be ranked among the top 100 in the following global university rankings including THE, U.S. News, QS, and ARWU. Bachelor candidates' GPA is no less than 3.5 (out of 4.0).
II. Application Procedure
1. Supervisor's Confirmation
(1) Before application, candidates must contact a supervisor (click the link to view the list of supervisors, click to view the subject introduction) to get an approval, and then download and fill out the Fast Response Action Application Form (click to download Attachment 1: Fast Response Action Application Form.docx) and submit it to the school you apply for.
(2) If the candidates have not contacted the tutor for the time being, he/she can log on the quick response forename system of Harbin Institute of Technology's postgraduate recruitment network and the WeChat official account of Harbin Institute of Technology's research and recruitment office (registration system - Doctor Fast Response) to make the forename. Alternatively, you can contact our university's Graduate Admissions Office to match your supervisor. Candidates should send an email to the Graduate Admissions Office's email address, which should include proof of their master's degree (proof of enrollment for recent graduates), academic resume (including research experience, thesis achievements, etc.), and a statement of their research direction (in both Chinese and English, within 1000 words).
2. The school or Graduate Admissions office will review the applicant's application documents within three working days and respond with the results of the review.
3. Candidates who pass the eligibility review may formally register via the Quick Response Initiative registration website (yzb.hit.edu.cn) and upload the required documents. Candidates must download and read the system's filling instructions, and fill out the registration information according to them, pay the registration fee, and upload the required registration documents. Applicants must carefully prepare the following documents:
(1) One copy of the Harbin Institute of Technology Doctoral Degree Application Form. After completing the form, applicants should export it from the online application system and sign it to confirm its accuracy.
(2) One copy of the Harbin Institute of Technology Doctoral Supervisor Assessment and Recommendation Form. The supervisor of the applicant shall fill out the form through the Graduate Student Information Management System, export it, and sign it for confirmation.
(3) Two recommendation letters from professors or experts with equivalent professional titles in the relevant field of study (click to download Attachment 2: Letter of Recommendation from Experts.doc). Letters from the applicant's proposed supervisor are not permitted.
(4) One personal statement (format not specified), including a brief description of the applicant's educational background, work experience, academic research, motivation and goals for pursuing a doctoral degree, academic or professional background and interests, and career goals and plans.
(5) Planned scientific research proposal during the doctoral program (format not specified).
(6) Official transcripts of bachelor's degree and master's degree coursework (must be stamped by the educational institution or archive office), foreign language proficiency certificates or transcripts.
(7) Abstract and conclusion section of master's thesis (for previous graduates) or master's thesis proposal (for recent graduates).
(8) Published academic papers, journal covers, and tables of contents (specific requirements are available in the application system), accepted but unpublished papers and acceptance letters. If the paper has been indexed by EI or SCI, a retrieval certificate for the article must also be provided. If the journal in which the paper was published is an EI or SCI source but the paper has not yet been indexed, provide the proof of journal source for EI or SCI and the article's DOI.
(9) Other relevant materials that can demonstrate the applicant's academic level and abilities, such as award certificates, supporting materials for participation in scientific research projects, and patent certificates that have been granted.
(10) Domestic bachelor's and master's degree certificates and academic transcripts, as well as electronic registration forms or Chinese higher education academic certification reports obtained from the CHSI (China Higher Education Student Information and Career Center) website. Recent master's graduates should provide their student ID cards and Student Record Verification Report./ Candidates holding a master's degree certificate from overseas must provide academic certification from the CSCSE (Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange)./ Candidates currently studying overseas must provide proof of enrollment from their school (stating the expected date of obtaining a master's degree). If admitted, candidates must provide a master's degree certificate and a certification report from the CSCSE upon enrollment.
(11) Recent graduates from top overseas universities must upload their transcripts for the three years of undergraduate study.
III. School Assessment
1. Foreign Language Proficiency Assessment
The foreign language proficiency assessment mainly concerns the applicant's ability to read and translate foreign language documents. Applicants who meet any of the following criteria are exempt from the foreign language proficiency assessment.
(1) A National College English Test Band 6 (CET-6) score of 460 or above;
(2) A TOEFL score of 80 or above (IBT);
(3) An IELTS score of 6.5 or above;
(4) GRE score of 300 or above (new);
(5) GMAT score of 650 or above;
(6) Passed the WSK (PETS-5) exam;
(7) Passed the National College Foreign Language Professional Level 8 Exam (TEM-8);
(8) Hold a foreign language professional degree certificate or graduation certificate from an undergraduate or master's program;
(9) Individuals with over one year (including one year) of full-time study abroad (where the language of application is the primary daily language and language of instruction in the host country) must provide proof of overseas study experience and transcripts.
2. Comprehensive Assessment
Comprehensive assessment includes past performance, academic level, scientific research ability, ideological and political quality, and moral character assessment. Comprehensive assessment will be conducted through material review, written examination, experiments, interviews, and scientific research report writing. Evaluation of academic competence focuses on candidates' mastery and application of subject knowledge and their academic innovation potential; assessment of professional expertise focuses on candidates' comprehensive practical qualities, ability to apply professional knowledge to analyze and solve practical problems, and career development potential. The specific assessment content and methods are determined by each school and department.
Candidates must also bring the following original documents and materials when participating in the subject comprehensive assessment:
(1) The candidate's “Admission Assessment Current Performance Evaluation Form” (click to download Attachment 3: Current Performance Evaluation Form.doc)
(2) Original bachelor's degree certificate and degree diploma;
(3) Original master's degree certificate and degree diploma (current students must bring their original student ID card);
(4) Original transcripts from both the bachelor's and master's degree programs;
(5) Original CET-4 or CET-6 certificates, or original TOEFL or IELTS score reports;
(6) Original copies of published academic papers (original copies of retrieval reports for SCI/EI articles);
(7) Original copies of other research materials, award certificates, and patent certificates.
IV. Relevant Information
1. This Quick Response Initiative is valid year-round.
2. Candidates who have obtained preliminary admission qualifications may, with the consent of supervisors, apply in advance to study and conduct scientific research at HIT. We will provide meals, accommodation, access to public buildings, and other guarantees in accordance with the standards at school. Candidates will have to complete the formal enrollment procedures in March or September of the planned year.
3. Master's students at HIT enrolled at the university should apply in accordance with the relevant requirements for combined master's and doctoral programs.
